PATIENT EDUCATION

Learn About Health

IMG's Patient Education Department exists to help our patients learn about health. In teaching patients to make healthy lifestyle choices and understand the risk factors, we give patients the power to help and heal themselves. The department is fully stocked with educational videos and literature, which are there for your edification and enrichment.

The Patient Education Department has two main functions: Nutrition counseling and Diabetes education.

Nutrition Counseling

The role of nutrition in maintaining health is of unquestionable importance. With so many different theories about healthy eating, it can be difficult for people to settle on a nutrition plan that works for them. That is why IMG's Patient Education Department is providing this service to our patients.

Common reasons for requiring dietary advice include weight control, heart failure, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, diabetes, food allergies, intestinal diseases, and other digestive disorders.

Diabetes Education

Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin, a hormone that is needed to convert food into energy. Although both genetics and environmental factors such as obesity and lack of exercise play a role, the cause of diabetes is a mystery. Approximately 17 million people in the United States, or 6.2% of the population suffers from the disease.

Diabetes can cause major health problems, such as heart disease, strokes, high blood pressure, blindness, kidney disease, nervous system disease, amputations, dental disease, and complications of pregnancy. However, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important in the fight against diabetes. You can have a positive influence on your blood glucose and your overall health by choosing foods wisely, exercising regularly, reducing your stress level, and making modest lifestyle changes.

It is to your benefit to learn more about this emerging epidemic. That is why Internal Medicine Group is offering this service. For more information about Diabetes Education, please call IMG at 307-635-4141.
